KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, who is heading to China for a week in a closely-watched visit, has said his cats will be happily looking after his house while he is away.
Datuk Seri Najib will be in Beijing from Monday (Oct 31) to next Sunday (Nov 6) on a visit where he is expected to strengthen bilateral ties and secure investments from China. He will be accompanied by dozens of government leaders and business people.
Ahead of the trip, Mr Najib on Sunday shared a light-hearted post on Facebook, where he said he had left his house in the charge of his four furry felines.
A photo accompanying the post showed the cats roaming around in what appears to be his living room. "I am going to China for an official visit for a few days, so my cats will become masters of the house, having fun," Mr Najib wrote.
Mr Najib has also previously shared his cat's antics on social media.
In a post on the photo-sharing app Instagram three weeks ago, Mr Najib shared a close-up of his orange cat "Simba".
"When we take photos of Simba, it knows how to pose in style. It looks fierce, but is actually cute and pampered," Mr Najib wrote in the post.
Mr Najib is visiting China at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. During the visit, he will meet with Mr Li and President Xi Jinping, the Sinchew Daily newspaper reported on Friday.
Relations between the two countries have turned warmer in recent months. Mr Najib in a statement on Wednesday said Malaysia was committed to pushing ties with China to "new highs".
"We will be signing many new agreements and understandings that will elevate the relationship between our two nations to even greater heights,"he said.
Mr Najib will seek to push for Chinese investments in areas such as infrastructure and manufacturing. Reuters reported on Friday that defence deals, including a contract to purchase Littoral Mission Ships from China, are also expected to be signed.
